Giants move up the ladder with two win weekend

Two wins from two in a double header weekend for the Mike Pero Nelson Giants.  First win at home over the Taranaki Mountainairs 91 – 58 then traveling north to take on Auckland Rangers.  It was Finn Delany again impressed for the Nelson Giants, adding six rebounds and three steals to his 33 points. Australian guard Kyle Adnam proved a worthy foil, adding 20 points of his own, which was matched by team-mate Damon Heuir.

The Rangers clung on through the first half thanks to a solid team effort. Devon Scott would end up leading them in scoring 22, but four other players reached double figures.

The Giants led 25-17 by the end of the first quarter, and by 43-38 at the end of a scrappy first half. There were 16 turnovers shared evenly between the two teams.

Nelson put the hammer down in the third quarter, jumping out to a 14-point lead (79-65) as Delany dominated, before cruising to the win in the final quarter.

The Giants lead the ladder from the Saints, with Southland Sharks and Canterbury Rams both sitting at 5-2 after wins in week five.   Sals NBL League week five
